In this episode of Another Bloody Podcast, Share the Dignity Founder, Rochelle Courtenay, sits down with Rose-maree, a proud First Nations woman and It’s in the Bag recipient whose story is a powerful reminder of what dignity can mean when you’re experiencing homelessness.
In her late 60s, Rose-maree found herself sleeping in her car, couch surfing and staying in unsafe accommodation, never knowing where she would sleep next. During this uncertain time, she connected with a community organisation where she was given an It’s in the Bag filled with everyday essentials.
For Rose-maree, the bag provided more than shampoo, toothpaste and a toothbrush. It gave her comfort, helped her feel cared for, and reminded her that she hadn’t been forgotten.
The handwritten note from a seven-year-old girl was particularly meaningful, staying with Rose-maree through some of her lowest days and reminding her of the kindness of strangers.
Rose-maree’s story takes us from homelessness to finding community, dignity and eventually a safe place to call home.
Join us for this month’s episode of Another Bloody Podcast to hear Rose-maree share her story of resilience, kindness and hope, and discover how one bag can mean so much more than the essentials inside it.
