The Department of Homeland Security put out a series of posts, one showing screenshots of two emails cancelling reservations of known ICE agents. Even though Hilton quickly distanced itself from the hotel chain in question and apologized along with the hotel’s management company, Hilton stock fell 2.5% on Monday. DHS used incendiary language in its posts, saying Hilton was siding with rapists and murderers and conservative pundits quickly took advantage of the situation on social media calling for a boycott of Hilton hotels and spreading misinformation.
