The Zimbabwean social justice movement, the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG), has submitted a petition to African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, urging the AU to intervene in a proposed draft legislative that could extend the presidential terms from five to seven years. The change could potentially see President Emmerson Mnangagwa remain in office until 2030. They have described this as a 'coup in motion'.
