With less than five days remaining before Zambia heads to the polls on August 13, 2026, church leaders have urged citizens to uphold the country's long-standing tradition of peace and stability. In a statement, the Catholic Bishops said Zambia has been spared the civil wars and widespread bloodshed that have affected several of its neighbours, calling on citizens to preserve that legacy.

The Bishops stressed that true peace is more than the absence of conflict, describing it as the result of justice, mutual respect, and solidarity among all citizens. They also made a special appeal to young people, urging them not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence during the election period.

Lulu Gaboo spoke to Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Caritas Executive Director, Father Gabriel Mapulanga.
