WHO pins its hope on TUMANI vaccine trials to respond to the urgent scientific questions regarding the outbreak of Ebola in the DRC?
The World Health Organisation says it hopes the TUMANI vaccine trials currently underway in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DRC will be able to respond to the urgent scientific questions regarding the current outbreak of the ebola caused by the Bundibugyo virus disease. TUMANI, which means hope in Swahili, is a clinical trial designed so that several vaccine candidates could be evaluated within one research framework, using a ring-vaccination approach involving contacts of people with confirmed disease. The trials are led by the government of the DRC, integrated into the outbreak response and managed by the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale, the national public health and biomedical research institute.
