United Nations Secretary General António Guterres has issued a stark warning that human rights are under what he describes as a "full-scale attack" across the globe. He was speaking at the opening of the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and the high-level segment of the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Switzerland.
In his final address to the Council before stepping down later this year, he warned that when human rights collapse, peace, development, and social cohesion begin to unravel.
