South Africa's (SA) Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), says they have welcomed the fragile ceasefire that was announced between Iran and the United States, saying it is in accordance with South Africa's approach to peace-making.  

The Department in partnership with the University of South Africa- UNISA, held a roundtable discussion on Wednesday under the theme, International Law, Diplomacy and Multilateralism for Peace in the Context of War: Iran and the Middle East.

'US/Iran ceasefire is in accordance with SA's approach to peace-making'

Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, currently serving as the African Union (AU) High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, has arrived in Juba for a three-day mission aimed at advancing inclusive political dialogue and fostering lasting peace in South Sudan.

Kikwete was appointed on March 24, 2026, by the African Union Chairperson as a special envoy for South Sudan under the AU's Ad Hoc High-Level Committee on South Sudan (C-5). His visit is expected to encourage cooperation among political leaders, promote national dialogue, and assist the country in progressing toward sustainable peace and credible elections. He is scheduled to meet with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir this Thursday.

Nigerian authorities have launched one of the country's largest-ever terrorism prosecutions, with more than 500 suspects accused of involvement in militant attacks now facing trial.

The charges include aiding and abetting terrorism, particularly in the north-east, where an insurgency by the Boko Haram Islamist group has persisted for 17 years. The mass trial began on Tuesday at a High Court in the capital, Abuja, where 227 suspects were arraigned before a panel of 10 judges.

Norway's Ambassador-Designate to South Africa (SA), Anne Beathe Kristiansen, has reaffirmed her country's commitment to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with SA.

Speaking shortly after presenting her credentials to SA's President Cyril Ramaphosa, Kristiansen praised SA's warm hospitality and highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two nations. Addressing global security concerns, Kristiansen noted Norway's deep concern over escalating conflict in the Middle East, stressing the need for adherence to international law, multilateralism, and diplomatic solutions.
