Former Tanzanian President Kikwete is in South Sudan for a three-day mission aimed at advancing inclusive political dialogue

Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, currently serving as the African Union (AU) High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, has arrived in Juba for a three-day mission aimed at advancing inclusive political dialogue and fostering lasting peace in South Sudan.

Kikwete was appointed on March 24, 2026, by the African Union Chairperson as a special envoy for South Sudan under the AU's Ad Hoc High-Level Committee on South Sudan (C-5). His visit is expected to encourage cooperation among political leaders, promote national dialogue, and assist the country in progressing toward sustainable peace and credible elections. He is scheduled to meet with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir this Thursday.
