The University of SA (Unisa), has denied allegations made by a structure calling itself Save Unisa Forum, making claims of the capture of the university council, maladministration and poor governance. This follows  news reports carried on SABC News and Channel Africa on Sunday on this issue. The institution has reiterated its stance that these allegations are a rehash of baseless and unfounded allegations that have been peddled since 2021, whose sole purpose is to cast aspersions on the integrity of the university leadership, especially Council and the Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Puleng Lenkabula and  her reappointment for a second term. A total of 574 people have been arrested and approximately $3 million has been recovered in a cybercrime operation across Africa. The operation focused on three prevalent crime types: business email compromise (BEC), digital extortion and ransomware, all identified as growing threats in INTERPOL’s 2025 Africa Cyber Threat Assessment Report.

Over 570 people arrested following cybercrime operation across Africa

Organisations in South Africa have expressed solidarity with pro-Palestine hunger strikers currently held in British prisons, calling for their immediate release.

Some of the detainees have reportedly gone more than 50 days without food, raising serious concerns about their health and the risk of death if urgent action is not taken.

In response, activists and civil society groups are planning to gather outside the British Council offices in Johannesburg.

The demonstrators say the action is intended to confront the British government over what they describe as its complicity in the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Following a referendum in September, Guinea's general elections have been set for the 28th of December 2025 to elect a new president few years under a military rule.

The vote is expected to formalize the rule of General Mamady Doumbouya, who seized power in a 2021 military coup and is now seeking to convert his transitional leadership into an elected presidency, despite earlier pledges not to run.

As Guinea allows for diaspora voting in this election, questions remain about preparedness and transparency abroad.
