The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Chief, Volker Türk, has announced the launch of a global alliance for human rights that will be led by the  Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR) under this new banner.

The initiative will mobilise actors from all sectors, regions and generations to help place human rights at the centre of global debate and decision-making. Turk was addressing the media at the headquarters of the Office of the High Commissioner in Palais Wilson, Geneva.

UNHRC set to launch Global Alliance in the fight for human rights 

As South Sudan prepares to mark 15 years of independence on July 9, young people are taking centre stage in a renewed call for peace.

A new youth-led campaign, launched under the United Nations' global advocacy initiative "Hear Us, Act Now for a Peaceful World," is amplifying the voices of young South Sudanese who are demanding an end to conflict and greater opportunities for their future. The campaign has been launched in Wau, Aweil and Juba, bringing together government leaders, artists, civil society and communities.

 South Sudan youth enforce call for peace leading up to 15 years independence commemoration 

Malawian President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is expected to travel to South Africa on a private visit this afternoon.

In a statement signed by Chief Secretary to the Government, Dr Justin Adack K. Saidi, the President is scheduled to depart from Kamuzu International Airport at 2:00 pm. According to local reports, this will be the third time President Mutharika has travelled to South Africa on a private visit since assuming office.

Following President Cyril Ramaphosa's address on illegal immigration on Sunday, civic groups demanding mass deportations, such as the March and March movement, maintain their hardline stance that, come the 30th of June, all illegal migrants should leave South Africa (SA).

Adding their voice to the conversation around illegal immigration is the United Civic Movement (UCM), which is set to brief the media on its stance on the illegal immigration crisis and the impact it's having on local communities.
