View descriptionShare

A group of 150 Kiswahili students from Uganda, have returned home after a study tour which took them to Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar where the Kiswahili language originated from.

Zanzibar is the headquarters of the East African Kiswahili Commission, and this trip was fully supported by Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni who is advocating for the Swahili language to be promoted in Uganda and Africa as a whole.

Our correspondent Michael Arereng travelled with the team and spoke to Caroline Asiimwe, the executive secretary of the East African Kiswahili Commission in Zanzibar.
