Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni will seek to extend his four-decade rule on Thursday in an election that has renewed questions about the 81-year-old leader's eventual succession.
Ugandans are faced with a choice of propelling a leader into his fifth decade in power or backing a candidate seeking to capitalise on the desire for change from some quarters. Concerns have been raised regarding reports of violations of freedom of expression and access to information, including acts of harassment, intimidation, arbitrary arrest, and abuse directed at journalists and media practitioners.
