The recent government crackdown surrounding Uganda's elections, including the nationwide internet shutdown, has significantly disrupted communication, cross-border trade, and the movement of people and goods.

As a landlocked country, Uganda shares borders with South Sudan to the north, Kenya to the east, Tanzania and Rwanda to the south, and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, making regional interdependence unavoidable.

 To provide both a historical and current analysis of how Uganda's contested elections have affected its neighbours, regional analyst Omwega Areba, spoke to Lulu Gaboo from Kenya.
