Two former Malawian presidents, Joyce Banda, of the People's Party and Peter Mutharika, leader of the main opposition Democratic Progressive Party, separately launched their electoral campaign on Sunday for the September 16 general elections.
Banda who launched launched her campaign in the central town of Ntcheu, pledged to prioritise youth empowerment and job creation.
Mutharika served as president from 2014 to 2020, when his re-election was annulled by the courts due to irregularities, vowed to "rescue" the country from political and economic hardship.
