The International Committee of the Red Cross( ICRC) in Southern Africa says there are always ways to resolve conflicts in Africa.
The ICRC says that there are 23 active conflicts in Africa some involving tribal and ethnic differences. However, the organisation is concerned that recently women and children are killed and raped in countries under-going conflicts. In a groundbreaking effort to spotlight the roots of international humanitarian law in African traditions, the ICRC Pretoria Regional Delegation launched an initiative called The Tool on African Traditions and the Preservation of Humanity in Warfare to explore the continent's historical relationship with the law of armed conflict through local practices and values.
Channel Africa Reporter Sisi Segalo spoke to Sarah Mabeza who is the ICRC Regional Legal Advisor to find out more about the research.
