The Ugandan government has announced a ban on live broadcasting of riots and violent demonstrations ahead of the general elections scheduled for next week, saying such coverage can escalate tensions and spread panic. Ahead of the 2021 elections, authorities cracked down on supporters of Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine. Amnesty International reports that security forces have begun repressing his supporters through arbitrary detentions, assaults, and torture.
