The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Council of Ministers is meeting in Harare, Zimbabwe ahead of the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government.

The Council of Ministers oversees the functioning and development of the bloc and ensures that policies are properly implemented.

The SADC Council of Ministers meets in Harare, Zimbabwe

UN Chief António Guterres has called for Africa to be given a permanent seat at the UN Security Council, a reform aimed at making the body more representative and globally credible.

Addressing the council on Monday, Guterres said the current composition of the council was outdated and undermined the body's legitimacy.

The African Union has long lobbied for two permanent continental representatives on the council and an additional two seats as non-permanent representatives without any success.

Countries are not doing enough to combat the world's largest displacement crisis in Sudan, where hunger, disease and floods compound the suffering of a population already plagued by conflict.

This is according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) which has urged countries to step up their donations in response to the world's largest displacement crisis in Sudan.
