South Africa's Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, announced today that the deaths of six children in Soweto have been linked to organophosphate, a toxic pesticide.
The children tragically lost their lives earlier in October after consuming snacks bought from a local spaza shop in the township, located within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality in the Gauteng province.
This information was disclosed during a joint press briefing held by the Department of Health and the South African Police Service.
Channel Africa reporter, Lebogang Mabange filed this report.
