South Africa's political party and member of the government of Unity, the Democratic Alliance, has raised concerns regarding the high number of unresolved sexual offences cases without being finalized.

If one breaks the numbers down, approximately 974 cases of rape and sexual assault are closed without result every month.  

This means that an average of about 32 victims of rape and sexual assault lose a chance at obtaining justice every day.

Female researchers from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) this morning held a media briefing on groundbreaking technologies aimed at combating plastic pollution.

Plastic pollution is an issue of global concern and evidence-based solutions are in short supply.

The researchers have shared innovations aimed at addressing plastic-related concerns across the entire life cycle of plastic products.

Their work aims to reduce reliance on traditional plastics and promote sustainable plastic circularity.

Tanzanian police have detained leading opposition Chadema party figures including former presidential candidate Tundu Lissu.

Police are also reportedly holding a group of young people who'd planned to attend the gathering later today.

Those arrested are accused of planning violent demonstrations.

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has secured his party's support to run for a second term in next year's election after being endorsed by his party members during a controversial national elective conference that ended on Saturday, but his chances of retaining power may depend on his Malawi Congress Party (MPC) finding a strong alliance partner.

MCP, which has been in an electoral alliance with the United Transformation Movement (UTM) since 2020, now lacks a formidable ally after the UTM pulled out of the partnership after the death of former Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima in a plane crash in June.
