A search operation is underway in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, to locate and detain prisoners who fled from a prison in Suleja following significant damage caused by heavy rains. At least 118 inmates managed to escape, with only ten being apprehended so far. Adamu Duza, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, verified that the prison, which held medium-security detainees, sustained extensive damage from the downpour, particularly to its perimeter wall, enabling the inmates to make their escape.

International medical charity organisation, Medicins Sans Frontier, MSF or Doctor's Without Borders says the recurring cholera outbreaks in Zimbabwe,  directly result from the country's deteriorated water and sewage systems.

The lack of adequate rain has only worsened the situation in urban and rural areas, with the water table rapidly depleting.

Community members in Mbire, work in fields alongside the river; since there are no toilets in the field, they resort to using bush toilets near the river. This results in the contamination of river water, which many use as drinking water.

MSF concerned about recurring cholera outbreaks in Zimbabwe

Since the beginning of the year, over 5- thousand suspected cases of monkeypox, including 321 deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have been reported, this is according to the World Health Organisation.  

The WHO has warned that the current situation of the monkeypox outbreak in the DRC is of "grave concern" due to the sustained increase in suspected cases compared to previous years, with a significant burden in younger populations, particularly children under 15 years of age, who constitute the majority of both suspected cases and deaths.

Ten opposition parties in South Africa's(SA)  Parliament say they are planning to challenge the Electoral Matters Amendment Act in court. The parties missed out on a March deadline for the submission of its candidates list.

The office of the Presidency said this week that President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Bill into law.
