South Africa's (SA) Film and Publications Board (FPB) is looking at clamping down on social media sites that disseminate harmful content.
The mandate of the FPB is to limit hate speech, propaganda for war, the non-consensual sharing of intimate images and the distribution of child sexual abuse material. The FPB was updating the select committee on economic development in parliament on the work done to protect South Africans from online harm. The boards acting CEO, Ephraim Tlhako told the committee that predators are rife online and children are easy targets.
