South Africa's (SA)education system faces a critical crisis with teachers experiencing burnout, inadequate resources, and there is a mass exodus from the profession.
This is contained in the Anton Lubowski Educational Trust (ALET) report which paints these alarming conditions including overcrowded classrooms with 50 plus students, crumbling infrastructure, and teachers forced to handle violence and crime without proper support or compensation. The situation has created a significant skills gap as fewer young South Africans choose teaching careers due to low pay, outdated training, and diminished professional respect.
For more on the issues contained in the report, Lulu Gaboo spoke to Director at ALET, Nadia Lubowski.
