The Western Cape High Court in South Africa (SA) is continuing to hear President Cyril Ramaphosa's application to review the Section 89 Independent Panel report into the Phala Phala farm theft.

 Advocate Dali Mpofu, representing the uMkhonto Wesizwe Party (MKP), has told the court that the President should not be allowed to evade accountability. Mpofu says Ramaphosa has a case to answer over the Phala Phala theft, arguing that the review application is merely a delaying tactic aimed at avoiding accountability.

SA President's review application aimed at avoiding accountability: MKP

Tunisia's Court of Cassation (Supreme Court) has upheld prison sentences of up to 45 years against 34 opposition leaders, lawyers and businessmen convicted of conspiracy. Forty people were charged with plotting to overthrow President Kais Saied, in one of Tunisia's largest recent political prosecutions. Twenty of those charged fled abroad and were sentenced in absentia.

The ruling is final and cannot be appealed. Opposition groups say it further entrenches President Saied's authoritarian rule, following three years of legal proceedings.

The report paints a picture of dire economic hardship faced by residents in these areas. Focusing on businesses and consumers, the study provides a detailed picture of the challenges facing Township and rural economies, as well as the opportunities that could be unlocked through a more competitive and inclusive market.

Survivors of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa (SA) and their dependants have applied to the country's  Gauteng High Court for permission to launch a class action against the government. The application challenges the continued existence of the Indemnity Act of 1961, which prevents victims and their families from seeking compensation for the massacre.

Filed by one survivor and two descendants on behalf of some victims, the case seeks to compel President Cyril Ramaphosa, along with the Justice and Police Ministers, to take steps to repeal the 65-year-old law.
