Dr Altieri, an Associate Professor in Oceanography at the University of Cape Town in South Africa was announced as the winner of the award at a function in Johannesburg. The price is worth over four hundred and ten thousand dollars .

Chinese Ambassador to South Africa, Wu Peng, has emphasized the importance of stronger media cooperation between China and South Africa, saying it is key to improving mutual understanding and people-to-people relations. He was speaking to Channel Africa in Pretoria at the launch of the Sino-South Africa Media Club, aimed at boosting collaboration between the two countries' media sectors. Peng says the initiative will help promote accurate storytelling and support cooperation in trade, education, and investment, noting that direct exchanges between citizens remain limited despite strong diplomatic ties.
