Mali's military government has dissolved all political parties following reports by rights groups that opposition figures have been arrested. Demonstrations were held earlier this month, with protesters demanding for the country to return to democratic rule.
A national conference was held in April recommending that the country's military leader, Assimi Goita's presidency be extended until 2030. This recommendation drew condemnation from opposition figures and human rights groups.
