Oxfam has warned of a deepening crisis in an already dire situation for people in South Sudan.

Families are being cut off from food, clean water and urgent humanitarian support as fighting continues.

Multiple health facilities and aid agencies have been looted which has led to the suspension of services and staff displacements.

Oxfam warns of deepening crisis in South Sudan

Calm has returned at Cheikh-Anta-Diop University in Senegal's capital Dakar.

The University has been the place of unrest since early December.

Students have been protesting a lack of financial aid from the government, leading to clashes with police.

On Friday, the situation deteriorated again and other institutions also saw protests. Students were reportedly throwing rocks and were met with teargas from security forces, whose help authorities requested.

Calm returns to Cheikh-Anta-Diop University in Senegal's capital Dakar

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has informed UN Secretary-General António Guterres that South Africa will withdraw its troop contribution to MONUSCO, the UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), after nearly 27 years of involvement.

South Africa currently has over 700 soldiers serving under MONUSCO, placing it among the top ten troop contributing countries to the mission.
