According to a study by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Eastern and Southern regions of Africa has revealed that only 24% of three and four year old's attend any form of organised early learning programmes in the region with considerable variation across countries from two per cent in Mozambique to 48% in South Africa.
This is despite the fact that ideally early childhood education should cover at least three years before a child enters school.
