Every year on the 1st of May, South Africa (SA) stands still to honour the spirit of its working-class men and women. This day, is also celebrated globally as International Workers' Day or May Day. It is a public holiday that pays tribute to the historical struggles of workers and their trade unions for solidarity and fair employment standards.
The Foundation for Rights of Expression and Equality organisation (Free SA), says it will not stand with the elites in regalia or the podiums heavy with empty slogans to celebrate the day, but rather stand with the 12.2 million South Africans who want to work, but cannot get. Not because they lack will or skill, but because they have been shut out of an economy that has stopped growing.
