The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, or FAO, is warning that a new El Niño weather pattern could severely disrupt food production and threaten the livelihoods of millions of farmers.

The agency says communities already struggling with climate extremes, conflict and rising food production costs are especially vulnerable. FAO, together with the World Food Programme, is calling for urgent action before disaster strikes.
