Rescue operations are continuing after a three-storey residential building collapsed near Alakija Bus Stop in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State, Nigeria. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency alert on Thursday and immediately deployed responders to the scene following a distress call.

So far, ten people have been rescued with varying degrees of injury and handed over to medical personnel for treatment.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, or FAO, is warning that a new El Niño weather pattern could severely disrupt food production and threaten the livelihoods of millions of farmers.

The agency says communities already struggling with climate extremes, conflict and rising food production costs are especially vulnerable. FAO, together with the World Food Programme, is calling for urgent action before disaster strikes.

South Africa's (SA) Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation says the country's policy of non-alignment should not be conflated with neutrality. The statement comes in response to social media posts by U.S. Ambassador Brent Bozell, who argued that SA cannot claim to be non-aligned while strengthening ties with countries Washington considers its adversaries.

In response, the ministry stressed that SA's non-aligned foreign policy allows it to engage with countries across the global spectrum and that Pretoria reserves the sovereign right to cultivate bilateral relations in line with its national interests.

A South Africa-based non-profit organisation, Corruption Watch, has launched its "Impempe is Not Impimpi" campaign, loosely translated as "Whistleblowing is not snitching", to help destigmatise whistleblowing.

The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the widespread impact of corruption in South Africa and the far-reaching consequences it has on communities, public services and the economy. It also aims to challenge the perception that reporting corruption amounts to betraying one's community, instead encouraging South Africans to view whistleblowing as an act of courage and civic responsibility.
