March and March, a citizen-led movement calling for stricter immigration enforcement and greater protection of opportunities for South African citizens, is today taking its campaign to the country's Gauteng Provincial Legislature.

This follows a day of protest action in the capital, Pretoria, where the group marched to the Union Buildings yesterday and handed over a memorandum on illegal immigration to government officials.

The Senegalese National Assembly has approved changes to the country's electoral code, ​introducing provisions that could pave the way ‌for Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to run in the 2029 presidential election.

The legislation amends provisions that had previously disqualified Sonko from running for office, potentially removing a key legal ​obstacle to ​his candidacy. The ⁠bill will now be sent to the president, who must decide whether to ​sign it into law.

The leader of Mali's military government, Assimi Goita, made his first public appearance on Tuesday since insurgents launched coordinated attacks over the ​weekend. In a televised address, he vowed to neutralise those responsible.

Mali is experiencing a severe security crisis with coordinated, high-profile attacks by militant groups, including a recent assault near the capital of Bamako that reportedly killed the Defence Minister, Sadio Camara, and exposed severe vulnerabilities.

The Alexandra Regional Court in Johannesburg, South Africa, has sentenced Bellarmine Mugabe to 24-months in prison or a $24 000 fine for pointing a toy firearm, as well as 18 months imprisonment or a 12 000 US Dollar fine for being in the country illegally.

Meanwhile, his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze has been sentenced to 3-years imprisonment for attempted murder, 12-months for contravening the immigration act, 12-months for defeating the ends of justice and a further 12-months behind bars for possession of a firearm and ammunition.
