Malawi is modernising its identity management system by introducing the Nzika Digital ID Wallet, which will allow citizens to carry a digital version of their national identity alongside their existing physical ID cards.
The initiative, introduced by the National Registration Bureau (NRB), aims to make identification more convenient as the country expands its digital services. The bureau says the digital ID will also reduce the need for physical ID printing, cut printing materials, and help the government save costs.
Lulu Gaboo spoke to the Spokesperson for the National Registration Bureau (NRB), Norman Fulatira.
