Malawi schools suspend classes as tropical storm Jude arrives

View descriptionShare

The Malawi Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced a temporary suspension of school lessons in certain districts from today until Thursday due to the anticipated arrival of Tropical Storm Jude.

In a statement, Principal Secretary Dr. Rachel Chimbwete Phiri explained that the decision follows a weather advisory from the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, which predicts the cyclone's landfall. Additionally, the Ministry of Water and Sanitation has issued a warning about the likelihood of flash flooding as several major rivers are expected to swell.

To get more information about this development Lulu Gaboo spoke to Channel Africa's correspondent in Malawi George Mhango.
