This is according to a joint statement by the United States (US), the DRC and Rwanda, released by the United States Department of State on Wednesday. This follows this week's meeting hosted by the US, where senior officials from the two countries met to revive the stalled peace process in eastern DRC.

The former paratrooper colonel is already one of Africa's longest-serving leaders, alongside Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea and Paul Biya of Cameroon.
