M23 rebels have reportedly appointed Joseph Bahati Musanga as the governor of North Kivu, and Willy Manzi Ngarambe and Shadrak Amani Bahati named Vice-Governors in charge of political, legal, and economic affairs, respectively.

Meanwhile, the M23 has seized control of Nyabibwe on Lake Kivu despite saying it had no intention of capturing any further areas and announcing a ceasefire on Monday.

Kenyan police have rescued 70 foreign nationals, mostly Ethiopians, who were being held in a house in Nairobi by a suspected human‑trafficking ring. Acting on a tip‑off, officers freed the group, which included 66 Ethiopians and four Eritreans, after discovering them confined in a house in the Ruai area, according to a police statement shared on a US‑based social media platform.


Authorities say investigations are underway to identify the traffickers and determine the intended destination of the victims.

The country has faced instability since the fall of Mohamed Siad Barre’s government in 1991.
