Kenya's Interior Minister has urged residents of affected areas to be cautious as rainfall continues across several parts of the country.

Crisis response company, CrisisOnCall, has called on people to double-check emergency contact numbers as the festive season gets underway.

They have warned that many assume their emergency contacts are correct and functional only to discover that during a crisis the line is unavailable or unanswered.

CrisisOnCall urges public to recheck emergency contacts ahead of festive season

Benin's president Patrice Talon says the "situation is completely under control" in his country, after the government thwarted an attempted coup thanks to loyalist soldiers with support from Nigerian forces.

 A group of soldiers announced Sunday on state television that they had ousted President Talon.

That sparked a swift response from loyal army forces, joined by air strikes and troop deployments from neighbouring Nigeria.

Beninese military and security sources said around a dozen soldiers had been arrested, including those behind the coup bid.

The 2025 South African Reconciliation Barometer shows a country still committed to democracy, but struggling with deep social challenges.

The survey was conducted a year into the Government of National Unity, formed after the ANC lost its majority in the 2024 elections.

The study also shows that trust in political parties and public institutions remains low.
