IOM report reveals alarming trends in migrant deaths & disappearances

A search operation is underway in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, to locate and detain prisoners who fled from a prison in Suleja following significant damage caused by heavy rains. At least 118 inmates managed to escape, with only ten being apprehended so far. Adamu Duza, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, verified that the prison, which held medium-security detainees, sustained extensive damage from the downpour, particularly to its perimeter wall, enabling the inmates to make their escape.

The United Nations (UN) is among many voices that have objected to the United Kingdom (UK) controversial bill to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, saying the law's likely to have negative effects on global responsibility-sharing, human rights, and refugee protection.  After a prolonged battle in the courts and in Parliament, Britain's Conservative government has secured this bill. The legislation is intended to override a Supreme Court ruling last year that deemed the plan to send asylum seekers to the African nation unlawful. The judges ruled that Rwanda was not a safe country in which refugees could resettle or have their asylum cases heard.

The UN amongst voices objecting to the UK's controversial bill to send asylum seekers to Rwanda

The United States (US) says it will temporarily withdraw some of its troops from Chad. This as the US is also expected to pull its troops from Niger. Washington was recently expected to meet Niger's Junta to discuss plans to withdraw American troops from the West African nation, ending more than a decade of U.S. military presence in the country. The US is yet to announce a timeline for when it will pull out the more than 1,000 military personnel.
