The capture of Uvira by AFC/M23 rebels has raised alarm within the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR). The town lies on the border between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burundi. Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the ICGLR's defence experts in Livingstone, Zambia, the bloc's Deputy Executive Secretary, Yasir Mohammed, warned that the conflict is causing immense human suffering, mass displacement, and disrupting humanitarian operations.
