South Africa's Human rights organisation, Black Sash says it has received an influx of calls from concerned grant recipients. This comes after the country's Social Security Agency (SASSA), announced that it would be pausing the grant payouts of beneficiaries under review or investigation for having possible undisclosed amounts of money. Black Sash says it appreciates the attempt to explain the legal framework and rationale behind the reviews, however says the reality for grant recipients on the ground tells a far more troubling story, one that cannot be brushed aside by semantics, administrative language or internal justifications.
