The death toll from the toxic gas leak at the Angelo informal settlement near Boksburg on the East Rand has been revised to 17.
This follows earlier reports by emergency services that 24 people had died following a gas leak in the area on Wednesday 5 July.
It is believed that the victims inhaled nitrate oxide which had leaked from a gas cylinder which is suspected to have been used for illegal mining activities.
