Attempted murder accused Bellarmine Mugabe has pleaded guilty to pointing a firearm and contravening the country's immigration laws.

Mugabe and his co-accused, Tobias Matonhodze, entered into a plea agreement with the state at the Alexandra Regional Court north of Johannesburg, South Africa. Matonhondze has pleaded guilty to attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, as well as possession of a firearm and ammunition. The charges stem from a February shooting incident involving an employee at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park.

With five days remaining in the current two-week ceasefire between the United States (US) and Iran, US President Donald Trump says the two sides are very close to reaching a deal, with talks expected to resume as early as this weekend. Also, Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire ahead of a planned meeting between their leaders next week.

 Meanwhile, the leaders of France and the United Kingdom are set to convene with dozens of countries, excluding the US, today to advance plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Israel, Lebanon agree to a 10-day ceasefire ahead of a planned meeting between their leaders next week

Israel has appointed its first Ambassador to Somaliland, months after controversially recognising the breakaway region as an independent state. In response, Somalia's Foreign Ministry condemned the move, describing Israel's appointment as a "direct breach of Somalia's sovereignty."

 Mogadishu reiterated that it categorically rejects any attempt to grant diplomatic or political recognition to any part of its territory outside the authority of the Federal Government. Israel is currently the only country to recognise Somaliland, a self-declared independent region in northwestern Somalia that unilaterally declared independence in 1991.

Quality assurance body Umalusi has confirmed major changes to South Africa's post-school education and training system, including the phasing out of the N1-N3 examinations and the internalisation of National Certificate (Vocational) Levels 2-3 assessments.

Umalusi says it will no longer issue new N3 certificates. However, the council has emphasised that although the issuing of new certificates has stopped, previously awarded qualifications remain valid.
