Amnesty International South Africa stages silent demonstration for human rights defenders

View descriptionShare

Amnesty International South Africa is staging a silent demonstration for human rights defenders in Pretoria, where Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia and police leadership are releasing the quarterly crime statistics. The organisation says the authorities continue to fail to protect human rights defenders, who play a crucial role in ensuring accountability and advancing human rights and social justice.

Amnesty International South Africa is urging the government to consider developing and adopting domestic legislation for the protection of human rights defenders in the country.

Lulu Gaboo spoke to Genevieve Quintal, Amnesty International South Africa’s Media and Communications Officer.
