Seventeen candidates are vying for Malawi’s top job in tomorrow’s general elections, with the Malawi Electoral Commission declaring it is fully prepared.

The contenders include incumbent president Lazarus Chakwera, former presidents Peter Mutharika and Joyce Banda, current vice-president Michael Usi, and former Reserve Bank Governor Dalitso Kabambe.

Voters say job creation and economic stability remain top priorities as the country heads to the polls.

All set for tomorrow’s elections in Malawi

A member of Gauteng's organised crime unit, Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, has concluded his testimony at the Madlanga Commission after spending six days in the hot seat.

On Monday, he testified about the substantial sum of money found in a safe at his home and claims he made about South Africa's Deputy President Paul Mashatile meeting with Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala. Among the evidence presented was an exchange between Nkosi and a journalist, in which Nkosi requested the contact details of entertainment blogger Musa Khawula.

It is further alleged that a payment of R500 was made after those details were shared, raising concerns about professional conduct, confidentiality and the boundaries between journalists and sources.
