A report by the DG Murray Trust's Zero Dropout Campaign reveals that a third of South Africa's children dropout of school

View descriptionShare

A newly release report by the DG Murray Trust's Zero Dropout Campaign has revealed that a third of South Africa's children dropout of school, with pregnancy and academic challenges as the main reasons.

SA has one of the world's highest unemployment rates, with young people aged between 15 and 24 accounting for almost two-thirds of those without jobs.

Previous studies have shown that finishing school not only increases the likelihood of employment but also reduces crime and risky behaviour.

The Zero Dropout Campaign surveyed people from 50 districts across the country.

Lulu Gaboo spoke to Communication Lead for the Dropout Campaign, Collin Wardle.
