This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1976 June 16 Soweto Students uprisings in South Africa (SA).
The Soweto uprising was a student-led protest against apartheid education policies, beginning on June 16, 1976, that resulted in hundreds of deaths and sparked nationwide resistance. Several events have been planned to commemorate the historic milestone in South Africa's history. The unveiling of this year's programme took place at the iconic Hector Pieterson Memorial in Orlando West, Soweto, last night.
Unahti Batyashe spoke to one of the surviving leaders of the uprisings, Dr Seth Mazibuko.
