Welcome to the Thursday edition of The Discourse - our in-depth conversation feature where we unpack the major global issues shaping headlines and policy, speaking directly to experts and decision-makers. Ten years after the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2286 aimed at protecting health care in conflict, leading humanitarian voices say attacks on medical services are continuing with devastating consequences. The World Health Organization says hospitals, health workers and patients are still being caught in violence across multiple conflict zones, despite international legal protections. Joining us now is Avril Patterson, Head of the Health Unit at the International Committee of the Red Cross, to explore the protection of health care in armed conflict and what is being done to safeguard hospitals, medical staff, and patients in war zones amid ongoing reports of attacks and violations of international humanitarian law.
