Prominent Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye is being held at a military jail in Kampala following his alleged abduction during a book launch in Kenya over the weekend.
Besigye, a long-time critic of President Yoweri Museveni, has run against him in four elections, consistently rejecting the results over claims of fraud and voter intimidation. A frequent target of arrests, Besigye has faced detention numerous times throughout his political career. His wife, Winnie Byanyima, has called for his immediate release in a post on X.
