South Africa's Deputy President Paul Mashatile has extended sincere gratitude to the contributions of Chinese-funded enterprises in South Africa.  

Mashatile was speaking at the launch ceremony of the second Corporate Social Responsibilities Report by the South Africa China Economic Trade Association (SACETA) on Tuesday, at the Chinese Construction Bank in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The 2nd Corporate Social Responsibilities Report by SACETA launched

The South African Communist Party says economic policies of the African National Congress have not helped black people who remain the face of unemployment and poverty.

The party says even though there's been some change to the lives of South Africans the majority remain in abject poverty.

To change this the party not only wants to contest the 2026 local government elections but also wants its alliance partner, the ANC to consider changing economic policies that it says have not worked over the past 30 years.

South African Communist Party criticises the African National Congress over economic policies

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, says the G20 must address the financial injustices facing developing nations including unmanageable debt, unfair tax systems, and insufficient access to financial resources.  

Guterres added that by enhancing multilateral banks, the G20 can provide better support and financial infrastructure to help countries navigate these obstacles, ensuring a more balanced global economic system.

He made these remarks at the finance the G20 Sherpa, Finance, and Central Bank Deputies meeting, held in Sandton, Johannesburg - South Africa.

Spaza shops, informal convenience stores operating in South Africa's townships and rural areas, have until tomorrow to re-register their businesses or face closure.

President Cyril Ramaphosa issued the 21-day deadline following public outrage over the deaths of more than 20 children who consumed snacks purchased from these shops and local vendors.

Spaza shops play a vital role in providing affordable goods to low-income communities but often operate outside formal regulatory frameworks.

Some shop owners have called for an extension of the deadline.

To discuss this issue and the evolving township economy, Dr. Thami Mazwai, former journalist, anti-apartheid activist, and author, who advocates for youth leadership in driving the township economy forward.
