The New South Institute (NSI) has welcomed the passing of the Public Service Amendment Bill, and called it an enormous achievement in the governance framework in South Africa.

On Tuesday, the National Assembly at its hybrid plenary sitting approved the bill, marking a significant step forward in the professionalisation and modernisation of the public service.

South Africa passes the  Public Service Amendment Bill

The United States and Iran are offering conflicting accounts of their nuclear talks, with Washington insisting Tehran has agreed to allow extensive inspections, while Iran denies any new commitments.It comes as the US Senate has backed a measure directing President Donald Trump to halt military action against Iran, in a 50-48 vote on a war powers resolution already passed by the House. US, Iran Clash Over Nuclear Talks as Senate Backs Measure to Curb Military Action

The Zambian government says it has officially thrown in the towel after Supreme Court of Appeal in South Africa - the SCA - ruled in favour of the family of the late Zambian President Dr Edgar Lungu and upheld their appeal regarding his remains. Lungu died on the 5th of June last year. The High Court in Pretoria in August last year found the Zambian government was entitled to repatriate Lungu's remains for the purposes of a State funeral and burial. However the SCA has now set aside that High Court order and found that the Zambian government failed to establish a right under either the common law or contract to override the family's burial decision.
