The department of Basic Education and South African Police Service (SAPS) have launched of a Safe Schools Protocol Program. The five-year program comes amid growing concerns of violence among learners in the country's schools and increased incidents of sexual violence. According to SAPS data 28 murders took place in schools for the 2023/2024 financial year, with the Kwa-Zulu Natal province accounting for more than half of the numbers.
