SA teenage girls continue to be counted amongst mothers who gave birth over the festive period

South Africa's Health Department has yet again cautioned against teeage pregancy. This as teenage girls continue to be counted amongst mothers who gave birth over the festive period. For New Year, a 12-year old from the Eastern Cape province gave birth and she has since been recorded as the youngest mother of the year. An investigation has been initiated similar to action taken in Limpopo which led to the arrest of a man who allegedly impregnated a 13 year-old girl. Over 650 babies were delivered in public health facilities across the country. Meawnhile in Gauteng  MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko officially opened  the newly expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Africa's biggest hospital, the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital located in Johannesburg.
